Keyworth 33 Hamains 14
Hamians fell to a second defeat of the season to a hard scrummaging Keyworth team who eventually were comfortable winner, despite a late Hamains comeback.
Toby 'Thor' Thurgood came into the front row, alongside Page who was filling the ample gap left at hooker by the absence of big-eating hooker Phil Hill.
Keyworth set their stall out early with some big scrummages, and their first 3 scores all came from 5m scrums when their scrum half, and their number 8 (twice) went over to open up a half time comfortable lead.
Hamians started the second half more promisingly, though fell further behind when another scrum in the Hamians twenty-two resulted in a blind side score for the winger.
Stung by this score Hamians began to work their way back into the game, and good work out wide by Nixon saw the elusive fly half scoot over with O'Malley converting. Hamians continued to press but couldn't make the most of another Nixon break, when against the run of play Keyworth got their fifth from a quickly taken penalty.
Hamians has the last score though as twinkle-toed Nixon danced his way to the line with 12 minutes remaining to bring the game back into the balance. From the restart Hamians moved the ball wide and found O'Malley in space who made 50m before being tackled into touch, and suffering a serious looking knee injury in the process. Keyworth were able to hold onto take the victory.
Plenty of positives for Hamians, who put up a good resistance to a more powerful Keyworth scrum. The defence was tight, with barely any missed tackles, and when running wide looked very dangerous. Training continues on Tuesday, 7pm.
