Hamians 68 Leesbrook 0
Nottinghamians booked their place in the NLD Vase Final with a dominant display over old rivals Leesbrook. The opening exchanges gave no hint to the eventual lopsided scoreline as both teams looked competitive. However, with Hamians dominating possession and territory it was only a matter of time before the scoring opened. Go to ball carrier BigT bashed through several defenders to open the scoring. Shortly afterwards Hamians used the full width of the pitch to stretch the visitors before Man of the Match Wilkinson offloaded brilliantly in the tackle to provide winger Begley with a simple try. Hamians continued to dominate in both defense and attack, with damaging defence lead by Rooth in the middle, and Strachan and Whittle out wide. Strachan was next over the line, with a typical bust down the middle. And livewire hooker May crossed shortly after to give Hamians a 22-0 half time lead.
A positive half time team talk focussed on continuing what was started in the first half, and a focus on defending the clean sheet. this continued and some crunching hits from Leavy and Brown showed Hamians were determined to keep the Derbyshire side scoreless. Second half tries came from Big T, with a further 3 tries, Begley with another 1 yard effort, Wilkinson, Hood, Atkinson and Whittle, with Dickinson and Clayton contributing 2 conversions each.
It was great to get such a dominant win against a team who have been sucessful in their league for a couple of seasons. The club now have a final to look forward to in April, which was well celebrated at the final whistle.
